College Cultural Night
Multi-band stage with full monitoring, pyro and lasers — plus a multi-cam live stream for remote alumni.
The Challenge
What stood between us and a perfect show
A government college festival with five performing student acts, two guest headliners, and a simultaneous live stream for alumni overseas — all within a tight venue that limited truss height to 18 ft. The organiser needed broadcast-grade stream quality while managing a hard midnight curfew. Backstage monitor mixes had to be isolated from a reflective concrete ceiling that caused severe comb-filtering at the default speaker positions.
The Solution
How we engineered it
We repositioned the Shure PSM900 in-ear monitoring system as the primary wedge solution for all performers, eliminating floor-monitor bleed and comb-filter buildup. The main system — eight RCF HDL20A per side at reduced fly height — was time-aligned digitally on the Wing console to compensate for the lower array geometry. Pyro was adapted to ground-based sparklers and CO2 blowers for the constrained ceiling. The multi-cam live stream used a Sony Z90 main camera and a Sony ZV-E10 Mark II roving camera, fed wirelessly into a Go-Stream switcher; the programme went live to YouTube and Facebook simultaneously. Sennheiser Digital 6000 handhelds gave the guest headliners studio-grade RF performance in a congested ISM band environment.
The Result
Show night and beyond
5,000 in-venue attendees and 3,200 concurrent online viewers at peak. The stream ran for four uninterrupted hours with zero dropout. All student acts performed to a full monitor mix with no feedback incidents. The event finished seven minutes before the hard curfew. The college has rebooked DC Events for their annual fest two years in a row.
